Who Should Use Iontophoresis?

Iontophoresis is a proven, non-invasive and drug free treatment for excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis). It is an extremely successful therapy that should be considered if high quality maximum strength antiperspirants are unable to control sweat levels. Iontophoresis should be attempted before considering surgery or injections.

Iontophoresis is used to treat primary and secondary Hyperhidrosis and is effective in virtually all areas in which patients may suffer with excessive sweating. There are systems and attachments to treat hands, feet, underarms, the face, neck and torso, in fact we have helped many hundreds of patients get dry in most areas of the body.

The Iontophoresis systems on this site are field-proven. Professional brands such as Hidrex and Idromed are used in countless hospitals, including NHS dermatology departments, across the world to effectively control Hyperhidrosis. Our staff have trained Doctors, nurses and medical professionals in hopsitals across the UK on how to use the equipment for the best possible response. We are called on regularly to advise staff on patient treatments and are proud to offer this service free of charge.

What Is Iontophoresis?

It is a treatment used extensively in hospitals and clinics worldwide that passes mild controlled 'Micro' electrical currents into the skin in areas where excessive sweating is a problem. The current is transferred to the body in most cases using simple tap water alone. Common problem areas are the underarms, hands and feet, face and neck, but Hyperhidrosis can affect any part of the body. All machines come ready to treat hands and feet and accessories for other areas of the body are available from us direct.

Treatments are simple to perform at home and unaided. Simply place electrodes in the provided trays, fill with approximately 500ml of tap water, switch on the iontophoresis machine and set the power level. Then simply place the hands and or feet into the trays and the circuit will close and treatment will begin automatically. After 15 minutes, the machine will power down and the session is then over.

Other areas of the body can be treated just as easily by applying tap water soaked accessories to the relvant body part that is affected by Hyperhidrosis. The machine will sense that the circuit is closed and will deliver treatment automatically.

How Iontophoresis Works

Mild electrical currents are produced and regulated by the control unit. The current is passed down high quality cables to the treatment electrodes which are placed into trays filled with tap water. Hands and or feet are then placed into the trays, completing the circuit and allowing current to flow into the skin where it slows down secretion at the gland, without causing damage. Treating other areas of the body employs the same process, except that electrodes are covered by absorbent sponges soaked in tap water and placed onto the treatment area.

Using an Iontophoresis Machine

Treating Hyperhidrosis with iontophoresis is a simple pain free process that can be performed in the comfort of your own home. A series of short 10-15 minute treatments are made daily for the first 3-5 days after which treatment times are expanded to weekly, fortnightly and then monthly sessions. Your individual requirements will determine how often treatments are to be made and our free lifetime support will guide you on this. If you stop the treatment and fail to maintain the therapy, sweating levels will return to pre-treatment levels.

Choosing your Machine

We offer an extensive range of machines which have been carefully selected to provide the best selection of iontophoresis machines on the market. Hidrex iontophoresis machines are professional grade devices used by hospitals and have been designed for safe home use. Hidrex offer both a direct current and a pulsed current iontophoresis machine as does the German manufacturer, Dr Hoenle, who produce the excellent quality professional Idromed range of iontophoresis equipment including the Idromed 5 PS and Idromed 5 GS machines.
